☝ Botox in Full Arch?
Yes. When indicated, Botox can improve the outcome of your cases in several ways:
1. Prevention of Complications
Botox injections can potentially prevent complications such as muscle spasms or excessive muscle activity during and after the osseointegration process after dental implant surgery. Plus, by reducing the muscle tone, less forces are transmitted to the implant / prosthetic complex, potentially reducing biological and mechanical complications, such as marginal bone loss or temp fractures.
2. Minimization of Bruxism Symptoms
About 90% of the general population have some kind of oral parafunction. Botox has been used to manage bruxism (teeth grinding) by relaxing the muscles involved. In the context of dental implants, this can contribute to a more stable environment for the implants by reducing the forces exerted on them.
3. Management of Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorders
Botox can be employed to manage symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorders, including pain and dysfunction. This can enhance the overall comfort and success of dental implant treatments.
4. Reduced Muscular Discomfort
Botox injections can be used to alleviate muscular discomfort and jaw pain associated with dental implant surgeries. This is particularly helpful in cases where patients experience muscle spasms or tension.
5. Aesthetic Enhancements
Beyond its therapeutic applications, Botox can also be used for aesthetic purposes to enhance the appearance of the face by reducing fine lines, wrinkles and the volume of the lower third of the face.
This can be particularly appealing to patients undergoing dental implant procedures who are interested in a comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
6. Full Arch Correction without Revision Surgery
Some full arch cases of severe maxillary atrophy still need bone reduction to hide the transition zone on a very high gummy smile patient.
Botox can help you manage the situation in a more conservative way by limiting the upper lip mobility.
